Tools of the Decluttering trade
These might be few but they are important. You might notice that nowhere on this admittedly short list, is there mention of industrialized cleaning products. The only that I did see fit to mention was a duster or a dusting cloth and that with good reason. Everything else is unnecessary at this point because your primary goal is to declutter, not to clean the house from top to toe. You will have to take things in steps and manage as you go on, so you will find that as you declutter and dust one room, you will be able to get back it for a thorough cleaning later on, or you will be able to get to it then and there if you feel like it. I have personally found though, that trying to work your way through a room sprayed with cleaners is difficult to say the least. Invariably I end up leaving the room with a splitting headache and with still most of a room remaining, to declutter. So I leave the spit-and-shine type if cleaning till the end, and have found that it works really well for decluttering purposes. The list below is the one that I consider to be the necessary tools of the decluttering trade, but if you feel it lacks something, feel free to add to it those things which will help you in your endeavors. · Bin bags – I use the normal black variety for most of my purposes. · Crates / Plastic Boxes /Cardboard Boxes – you will need whatever of these you can lay your hands on. · Duster or a Dusting cloth – whichever you prefer. · A notebook and a pen – for when inspiration strikes you, or you remember something that is a must-do. · Your choice of beverage – if you¡Çre going to be working for long periods of time on your decluttering, you will want to stay hydrated. Take your normal coffee breaks by all means, but also have something else on hand. · Optional, Mood music – this is a must if you¡Çre a music addict. It will get you through almost anything in a good mood. · Non-negotiable – your will power and dedication to see this through to the end, whatever time allotment that may be. Without this, then your entire decluttering cause becomes an exercise into nostalgia, as you look over the things which are cluttering your home. |
